Paul Parsons is the founder and Managing Director of Energy Training Resources. He researches topics across the oil and gas industry and leads the development of presentation materials for our live courses, eLearning courses and drilling video. He instructs many of our courses and has a unique range of subject-matter knowledge and experience to share with course audiences.
Paul is also currently a lecturer for the McCombs Graduate School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. He teaches courses in oil and gas accounting and corporate sustainability.
Prior to starting Energy Training Resources, Paul worked 24 years for Occidental Petroleum Corporation (“Oxy”) and was involved with a variety of domestic and international operations and projects. His later roles at Oxy included serving as divisional chief financial officer for Oxy’s operating divisions in The Netherlands and the U.S. Permian Basin.
Paul networks throughout the industry and stays current on industry topics. He has presented on oil and gas topics in a variety of forums including the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the American Petroleum Institute, the Houston Geological Society, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Texas state legislature.
Paul has a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin, an MBA from the University of Houston, and is a Certified Public Accountant. Paul also has a certificate in Professional Land Management from the Petroleum Extension Service of the University of Texas.
Paul is active with the subject of corporate sustainability reporting and is a GRI Certified Sustainability Professional and a Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting Credential Holder (SASB/ISSB/IFRS).
