Oil and Gas Sustainability Training

Almost every public oil and gas company issues a sustainability report and some utilize voluntary reporting standards/frameworks set out by organizations such as the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (Ipieca), the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), or the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

Companies may also voluntarily report emissions or other environmental-related disclosures using methods established by organizations such as the Task Force on Climate-Related Disclosures (TCFD), the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), or the Task Force on Nature-Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).

Some companies are also subject to mandatory disclosure requirements that have been implemented or are in the process of being implemented. For example, the U.S. SEC is undertaking a requirement for public companies to make climate-related disclosures in their 10-K filings. The state of California is implementing emission reporting requirements for larger companies doing business in the state. Non-U.S. companies reporting under the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) are subject to disclosure requirements issued by their International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). European companies are subject to extensive reporting requirements under their Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

How We Can Help

A key expectation under sustainability reporting standards is adequate organizational governance. That means that sustainability matters such as impact analysis, risk assessment, strategy, and setting of metrics and targets starts at the top and is appropriately managed down through the organization. That calls for workforce awareness and coordination to align their efforts, practices and attitudes with organizational objectives.

We can organize, conduct and document workforce training sessions that explain the growing global demand for more-sustainable practices, the issues that are most material to the oil and gas industry, the intense public and regulatory focus on carbon-based emissions and climate reporting, and the progress that the industry has made and continues to make in reducing its methane and CO2 emissions. We can also explain how your company is helped by a sustainability-minded workforce because improvements made by employees themselves, both on and off the job, help improve the public commons that also affect businesses. We can also help communicate your company’s sustainability objectives and focus areas.

Our instructor teaches on sustainability topics at a university level and is a GRI Certified Sustainability Professional and an IFRS/ISSB/SASB Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting Credential Holder.
